Research Focus
My research program is focused on optimizing prescribing for older people with emphases on long-term care. My current research projects are in two areas.
First, my research aims to determine patterns of adverse drug events and to develop and evaluate strategies to change prescribing patterns and improve the quality of drug therapy used by long-term care residents. We are currently evaluating the benefit of Computerized Physician Order Entry with Clinical Decision Support on reducing adverse drug events in long- term care facilities. Second, as co-principal investigator of an Emerging Team, funded by CIHR, we are examining pharmacologic management of chronic disease in older adults to optimize the health of the elders. Using large provincial databases, our multidisciplinary team is performing series of pharmaco-epidemiology studies to explore benefits and risks associated with the use of drug therapy by older adults with co-existent chronic disease across a range of populations and in a spectrum of settings.
These projects are supported by federal funding agencies including The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality and Canadian Institutes of Health Research.
