Assistant Professor (Status Only) Factor Inwentash Faculty of Social Work, University of Toronto

Research Interests

Mental health and aging, psychosocial care in long-term care, social work workforce in aging, and nursing home social work

Research Focus

My major research focus concerns the quality of psychosocial care in long-term care homes. This includes studying the impact of social work and inter-professional staffing, training, and psychosocial care processes on resident health, mental health and behavioral outcomes. Secondly, I am interested in the workplace experiences of social workers in aging that contribute to their job satisfaction and retention. As the population ages, there is an increased need for social workers and other health professionals with clinical expertise in gerontology; therefore, retaining already trained professionals is important to ensuring the development of this workforce.
