Ruth Klein will examine the dimensions of value-based conflict surrounding life and death issues as it impacts on interdisciplinary teams, presenting a draft model of how to incorporate alternative dispute resolution paradigms into ethical decision-making processes. Ruth has been assisting Marcia Sokolowski, Ethicist, and the Palliative Care Unit team with the development of a theoretical framework to address value disparities that arise amongst team members, families and patients. This theoretical framework is in the midst of being developed as a tool to enhance clinical practice. Practical application of this model will also be emphasized.
